That is a real tmux or zellij session on a real Linux box, not a sandbox: disconnecting detaches, it does not kill. The session keeps running whether anything is attached or not.
Why not my own VPS
The cheap VPS works. That part was never in question.
For a single low-stakes user it wins, full stop, and we will not pretend your box is about to fall over. What it never gave us: the overnight session crash nobody notices, backups someone has actually restored from, hardening kept current after the weekend you set it up, and someone accountable late on the night before a client delivery.

Your keys, your account
If your agent vendor nukes your account, your box does not care.
Claude Code, Codex, Mistral, local models: they run in your environment, on your keys, on your account, no markup. Limits lowered unilaterally and in secret, accounts banned in a sweep: we cannot fix your vendor, but a ban over there cannot touch your box here. Swap keys, reattach, the session never moved.

"Where does our code sit?" now has a one-line answer.
Hosted in France, by a company under French law with no US parent and no US point of presence, with a DPA you can show your client's DPO before they ask twice. One honest limit: your agent still sends code context to your own model vendor, on your keys; the environment and the stored data stay in France.
